What is the GIP?

The HENNGE Global Internship Program is an on-site software engineering training program at their Shibuya office in Tokyo. It runs for 4 to 6 weeks, Monday to Friday (10:00 AM – 7:00 PM JST).

This is not a desk-warming internship. You work directly with HENNGE's engineering team, get a dedicated mentor, and build real applications using their tech stack. The working language is English — no Japanese required.

Important: The program is unpaid, but HENNGE provides a comprehensive set of subsidies and benefits that cover your major expenses (details below).

There are two engineering pathways to choose from:

1. Full-Stack Engineering Pathway

1. Build back-end APIs and front-end interfaces
2. Work with Python, Go, or TypeScript (React/Vue)
3. Deploy applications on AWS
4. Week-by-week: Weeks 1–4 full-stack project → Week 5 DevOps & infrastructure

2. Front-End Engineering Pathway

1. Develop front-end applications using TypeScript with React or Vue
2. Focus on state management, data fetching, and UI/UX
3. Week-by-week: Weeks 1–4 application development → Week 5 DevOps project
   

You can apply for both pathways — but you must submit separate applications using different email addresses for each. Once the program starts, you cannot switch pathways.

Who Can Apply?

This is a software engineering program. It is not open to all students — you need to have the right technical background.

Basic requirements (both pathways):

1. Third-year undergraduate or higher — including Master's and Doctoral students
2. Recent graduates are also welcome
3. Degree in Computer Science or a related field — OR equivalent experience from a tech internship or coding bootcamp
4. Fluent in English
5. Comfortable working in Linux/macOS/Unix-like environments
6. Interested in pursuing a career in Japan
   

Full-Stack pathway — technical requirements:

1. Proficiency in Python, Go, or React/Vue in TypeScript
2. At least 3 of: AWS experience, full-stack web development, distributed systems, DevOps/CI-CD, Docker/container knowledge, software testing
   

Front-End pathway — technical requirements:

1. Proficiency in TypeScript with React or Vue (state management, data fetching, form validation)
2. At least 3 of: AWS experience, full-stack development, Python/Go, distributed systems, DevOps tools, UI/UX design (Figma), responsive web design, SSO implementation
   

Important: Their Policy on AI-Generated Code

HENNGE is transparent about this. The GIP is a learning program, and they ask you not to use AI tools to generate code for assignments or solution implementations. The code you submit must reflect your own understanding.

You may use AI to clarify concepts or read documentation — just not to write the code for you. During the program, you will be expected to explain your code, walk through your trade-offs, and defend your design decisions.

How to Apply

The application is not just filling out a form. There is a coding challenge involved.

The coding challenge has no time limit — solving speed is not evaluated. But your application is only complete once you upload your documents AND fill in your batch preferences.

Step 3 (Interviews): If you pass the coding challenge, HENNGE will invite you for an HR interview, followed by a technical online interview.
